At 65+ gallons, a meaningful share of what’s sold are reef-ready drilled tanks built for sump filtration — worth listing separately since a drilled overflow box changes usable footprint and setup requirements versus a plain glass tank of the same listed size. Important: don’t assume a standard Aqueon aquarium and an Aqueon Reef-Ready aquarium of the same gallon capacity share identical dimensions. For the 90- and 125-gallon sizes specifically, Aqueon’s standard (undrilled) tank runs about a quarter-inch shorter than the Reef-Ready version of the same gallon count — the drilled overflow chamber appears to add a small amount of height. Always confirm which product line a listing is describing, and verify the exact SKU, before ordering a stand, lid, or plumbing.

Why Branded Aquarium Dimensions Need to Be Verified

• Manufacturers update molds and discontinue specific sizes — the 36-gallon bow front in the table above, for instance, no longer appears in Aqueon’s current catalog even though several retailers still list and sell it.
• Retailers sometimes round, mistype, or carry outdated spec sheets — always weigh a listing against the manufacturer’s own current documentation.
• The same nominal product line can differ between a standard and a drilled/reef-ready version, as the 90- and 125-gallon Reef-Ready heights above show — don’t assume the undrilled and drilled tanks of the same gallon count are interchangeable.
• Two products with the same gallon count and even the same brand name aren’t guaranteed to share a mold — check the model number, not just the size label, before ordering a stand, lid, or sump.
